About the museum

The museum is located in the village where Viktor Chernomyrdin was born - Chorny Otrog in the Orenburg region. The museum is using two buildings: the former Communist party district committee building and a new build. Total space is 8,300 m². Exhibition space – 3,000 m².

The Chernomyrdin Museum is in fact three separate museums in one: one about the man himself; another for his collections; and a third about his native region. There are also exhibitions, a library and archive, a theatre and concert hall, studios and creative workshops, hospitality facilities and an information centre.

The museum has more than 27,000 items in its collection, most of them donated by Chernomyrdin’s family.

The museum was founded by Presidential decree and financed with support from Gazprom and the Government of the Orenburg region.

Museum of Chernomyrdin is a current institutional member of the International Council of Museum (ICOM).
